Shanghai Nights

Made it to Shanghai last night after a long day and a bit of travelling. I had my own little amazing race going on as I booked a flight from schenzen to shanghai. Who knew how easy it would be to get from HK to Shenzen--- theres flights, ferries, buses and trains... As such after a quick no fuss trip (well for me anyway - there was a chinese couple the driver made get out in the middle of a freeway. An arguement ensued and I found out later they got on the wrong bus and wanted to go to HK airport) I had a long 4 hour wait at Shenzen airport.

My expectations of China have been completely wrong. This place is sheer humanity to the max - consumerism has gone nuts. The cultural revolution and farming life is gone. So much so that I am feeling claustrophobic even here in Shanghai a city. The amount of shops, people and neon is astonishing and slightly hypnotic at the same time. I took in the bund last night which my room overlooks and is quite a spectacle all lit up at night. Today I did a bit for my left sided brain and took in the arts museum and the actual shanghai museum - my feet are sore though from all the walking.

Some of my interesting observations:
Its nice being in a country where you feel tall.

  • Morrocco vs China - china hassle is much easier to deal with. Although I have now taken to putting my headphones in when walking places as it makes it easier to ignore the touts.

  • I travelled 400km/hr on a train.... that cant be good.

  • Food is awesome... yet to find my ultimate bun or dumpling but the search will continue.
Probably going to get out of shanghai tomorrow and begin heading south. My tour starts on Saturday so got some time to see a bit extra of china.

Hi Luke,
It is nanna here. I am glad you are enjoying the food. We ate 15 dumplings in one sitting and think we found the ultimate dumpling although after 15 and a couple of beers all dumplings tasted the same.
Luv Nanxxxxx
Keep having fun love mumxxxxx
