Besides the sites I met a bunch of really nice American guys at the hostel I was staying at and we went out a few nights in the city with the highlight being watching the first game of the euro-cup in the main square with the Czech-Republic vs Switzerland, Drinking Czech beer which rivals Belgium beer and eating bratwurst.
After Prague I headed off to Cesky Krumlov which is a stunning old-walled town with a river running through it and a castle on a hill. Met a nice bunch of Aaussies here. Days were spent wandering though the town, nights watching the euro-cup (a constant feature during the next month) and drinking at the local watering holes one of note was the horror bar which was decorated with skulls and nooses and had a barman who looked like meat-loaf. They also had a cool restaurant here translated from Czech it is called “The Meat Cave” where big chunks of meat were BBQ to perfection and served with potatoes and other salad for little less than 6 or 7 dollars. Beers in this country were also ridiculously cheap with a 500ml beer costing about $1-2 depending on where you were.
After Cesky Krumlov it was off to Olomouc, An out of the way town with a big student population. The hostel here was run by an aussie couple who fell in love with the city. The city was like a compact prague with really nice churches, museums and restaurants. I travelled around here with a French Canadian (from Poland originally) named Mike. We rented bikes to see the city. After 2 night here it was off to Slovakia.
