Been flat out this week since my last post - although I have had an absolute ball. After leaving Shanghai I headed down to Hangzhou and the site of the famed West Lake - the original one (there are 35 others in china). It was very scenic - landscaped with various temples around. The nightlife was also good as well.
Next myself and what seemed like half of China decided to climb Huang shan - the famed yellow mountain. Joining me on this journey was a young brighton (in England) lad named Jake. We climbed up the easy steps sometimes getting blocked by large tour groups and porters carrying massive steel gerders up the steps probably to build more on mountain accomodation. We shared a room that night with 3 chinese men in a dorm. They all snored... the bed was paper thin... mobiles kept going off and one actually woke up 3 or 4 times to spit up half a lung. Was quite amusing but since we were getting up at 5am to see the sunrise on the summit it wasn't that bad.
The sunrise was spectacular. Despite having to jostle to find a good viewing/photo taking area. Ahh the serenity. The descent was a bit more hairy... and at some points resembled rock climbing. Was well worth it though and was quite a beautiful area of china.

I returned to Hangzhou and stayed with Jake who is teaching uni students English. We had a massive night out on the town - drinking AUD1.40 Asahi and massive pitchers of Tiger Beer challenging the locals to a game of "bullshit". This is an awesome dice drinking game.. get ready for it people when I return. Not suprisingly Sunday was not my best day ever... and I flew to Kumning where I have started the Gecko's Tour.
Now for some random observations:
Chinglish: The translation of chinese to english. Sometimes not really that successful See below for good example
Spitting: I have become an expert at dodging this stuff. It literally flies everywhere. I cant understand why they don't swallow the stuff. Apart from this habit China is super clean.
Hope you are all well. Will stay in touch.
